SANT’ANDREA – DESCRIPTION AND HISTORY

Sant’Andrea was an ancient port located on the Adriatic Sea, and even now it is a small fishing village. Sant’Andrea is famous for its sea stacks that attract large numbers of tourists and lovers of uncontaminated landscapes.

The most striking sea stack is certainly the one shaped like a bow, called “Arco degli Innamorati”, named after an unfortunate incident that involved two lovers who swam around there (at least according to legend). When the sea is calm you must go for a swim under the “Arco degli Innamorati” to enjoy the crystal clear sea of Salento.

To the left of the beach there is an area no longer accessible because of the cliff collapses. On the right, however, there is a large pine forest, ideal for cooling down in the hottest days and perfect for a picnic outdoors in the spring days.

If you fancy walking a bit, Sant’Andrea is the place for you! Just follow the dirt road to admire the enchanting landscape of rocks and small sandy coves, that are accessible when the sea is not rough.

PLACES OF INTEREST

For many young people from Salento and not, Sant’Andrea is synonym of “Babilonia“, the so-called club located right near the beach. For many years Babilonia houses unforgettable musical evenings, concerts and DJ sets, especially in summer nights. Your holiday in Salento won’t be made only by sun, sea and beaches!
